DHAKA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government will purchase another four heavy duty gantry cranes for the smooth handling of containers at the country's Chattogram seaport, some 242 km southeast of capital Dhaka.

Chattogram Seaport Authority signed an agreement with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd of China in the capital Dhaka Wednesday.

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Air Commodore Zulfiqur Aziz and Liu Qizhong, senior vice president of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd, signed the agreement on be half of their respective sides, said a statement of Bangladesh's Ministry of Shipping.

Earlier in October last year, the CPA signed a deal to purchase six heavy duty gantry cranes, said the statement.

Officials said the cranes, each capable of moving heavy loads up to 40 tons at a time, would help speed up the movement of containers at the port that handles about 92 percent of Bangladesh's total export-import trade.
