SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Authorities Friday imposed restrictions in several areas of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir and other towns to prevent protest demonstrations and clashes on the fifth death anniversary of Indian parliament-attack convict Mohammed Afzal Guru, officials said.

"Restrictions have been imposed in some places to maintain law and order," a senior police official said.

Huge contingents of Indian police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed in Srinagar city and other major towns like Sopore and Anantnag to enforce strict restrictions.

A complete shutdown is being observed in the Muslim majority areas in response to strike call from separatist groups.

Guru, a Kashmiri, was executed in 2013 for his role in 2001 Indian parliament building attack.

Shops, business establishments, private offices remained closed in Srinagar and elsewhere in the wake of restrictions and strike.

Public transport is also off the roads.

The restrictions and strike have also affected work in government offices and banks.
