GABORONE, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Botswana President Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Monday vowed to revive and strengthen the country's ties with Zimbabwe.

Khama told visiting Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa that Botswana highly values its relationship with Zimbabwe and sees her as a special friend in the region with similar values.

The Botswana leader congratulated Mnangagwa on his assumption of office as Zimbabwe's head of state, highlighting that it reaffirmed the need to revive bilateral relations, Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) reported.

Mnagagwa is on a two-day state visit to Botswana.

Khama assured Mnagagwa that Botswana stands ready to give Zimbabwe all the support in her new journey of economic transformation and peace and prosperity for the betterment of the people of Zimbabwe, BOPA said.

For his part, Mnagagwa expressed delight over the invite and hospitality he has been rendered by Botswana as it was his first state visit since being sworn in as Zimbabwean head of state.

He said Botswana has played a critical role in the history of Zimbabwe that dates back to the years of liberation struggle.

Mnagagwa said the two countries have a lot in common and need to further strengthen ties in any field that would be of great benefit to their citizens.
