NEW YORK, June 19 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened lower on Tuesday as investors increasingly concerned about the ramifications of U.S. President Donald Trump targeting China for additional tariffs on goods.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 307.99 points, or 1.23 percent, to 24,679.48. The S&P 500 decreased 23.38 points, or 0.84 percent, to 2,750.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index declined 76.73 points, or 0.99 percent to 7,670.30.

Shares of some major U.S. chipmakers fell in early trading with Qualcomm and Nvidia both sliding more than 1.5 percent.

Shares of Boeing and Caterpillar dropped more than 2.7 percent shortly after the market opening on Tuesday. The two stocks are sensitive to trade tensions as a large part of their business comes from overseas.

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Monday with the Dow suffering a triple-digit loss.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 103.01 points, or 0.41 percent, to 24,987.47. The S&P 500 was down 5.79 points, or 0.21 percent, to 2,773.87. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 0.65 point, or 0.01 percent, to 7,747.02. Enditem
