RAMALLAH, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- An official from Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said Thursday that intensive Palestinian diplomatic movement is ongoing on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Hanan Ashrawi, member of PLO Executive Committee, told Xinhua that the Palestinian movement aims at "finding political alternatives and breaking the U.S. exclusive supervision over the peace process."

"We want to rally international support to our plight to find an international alternative away from the U.S. hegemony," said Ashrawi.

She added that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is set to hold a meeting with foreign ministers and diplomats of member states at the UNGA on Sept. 26.

The meeting will "focus on supporting the Palestinian cause and confronting U.S. policies that are based on unjust unilateral moves by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and cutting aid," Ashrawi said.

She expressed hope for a "more effective European role," noting that Abbas will visit France and Ireland before heading to New York.

The Palestinians have boycotted the U.S. administration since it recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moved its embassy to Jerusalem.

They said in several statements that the U.S. "Deal of the Century" falls way short of their expectations and aspirations for lasting and just peace settlement.

The Middle East peace process was resumed more than once under U.S. supervision. The last round of U.S. sponsored negotiations between Palestine and Israel was ended in 2014 after nine months of talks without achieving any breakthrough.
