NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Mid-Autumn festivity filled the air at New York city's Lincoln Center on Friday as Asian Cultural Symphony of the USA played traditional Chinese music, ushering in the important traditional family reunion event.

A huge crowd of classical music lovers -- many of whom wearing Chinese costumes -- swarmed into the Alice Tully Hall for the Chinese musical feast.

Now in its third year, the symphony's Mid-Autumn concert was bestowed with a fortissimo touch from acclaimed Chinese pianist Yin Chengzong.

As Yin performed the famed modern Chinese piano-concerto "Yellow River," which he and others adapted from the cantata of the same name by late composer Xian Xinghai in 1939, the hall was overwhelmed with thunderous applause from the audience.

Other music and song pieces on Friday's program included "Dance of the Yao Tribe," "The Song of Yangtze River" and "Hulunbuir Grassland."

The cellist Lu Meixu and harpist Chelsea Lane played "The Swan from the Carnival of the Animals," with Fang Zhongjing danced ballet to the music.

"The concert certainly brings audience good memories of the past when they were at home in China, because many pieces were well-known and nostalgic," said Lu.

The Asian Cultural Symphony of the USA is affiliated with Asian Cultural Center. It is made up of nearly 100 members, who don't necessarily have Chinese background but love music and Chinese culture.
