TEHRAN, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denied the allegations that the Islamic republic was behind a foiled attack on an Iranian opposition group in Paris, France in June.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi warned in a statement against what he called a conspiracy aimed at sabotaging Iran's "long-standing relations" with France and other major European countries.

On Tuesday, France announced that French authorities have frozen the assets of two Iranians and Iran's intelligence services over their alleged connection to a plot to attack a meeting of the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran.

"An attempted attack in Villepinte was foiled on June 30. An incident of such gravity on our national territory could not go unpunished," French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said in a joint statement.

Six people, including an Iranian diplomat identified as Assadollah Asadi, have been arrested for plotting the attack, media reports said.

In response, Qasemi said that Iran once again rejected the accusations and allegations and expressed its "strong objection to the apprehension of the Iranian diplomat," said Qasemi.

"The existing documents reveal the clear role of the dissidents, ill-wishers and saboteurs in this farcical show," he said.
