SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Two militants were killed in a fierce gunfight in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Wednesday.

The gunfight broke out late Tuesday evening in Tral area of Pulwama district, about 44 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"The gunfight at Mandoora in Tral ended late in the night and two militant were killed," a senior police official posted in the town told Xinhua. "The slain militants were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant outfit."

Police officials said the area was cordoned off Tuesday evening following specific intelligence information suggesting presence of militants.

"The gunfight continued for around six hours and ended during the night," the official said.

Reports said the house in which the militants were holed up was set on fire.

Of the two slain militants one is said to be foreigner, while as another one a local cadre.

Meanwhile, police issued an advisory asking locals not to go near the site where explosive material including grenades or improvised explosive device may still be lying around.

Earlier this month, seven civilians were killed after a bomb went off at a gunfight site in Kulgam district. A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989.
