LONDON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Britain's capital is to have its first ever Youth Assembly with young people from the age of 11 elected to serve as members, City Hall announced Friday.

Each of London's boroughs will elect members, aged 11 to 19, to the new assembly to work with London Assembly Members on matters of joint interest.

Their decisions will feed into the London Assembly's work in scrutinizing London mayor Sadiq Khan and exploring public policy issues of interest to Londoners.

The inaugural meeting is to be held next Thursday in the main chamber at City Hall, home of the London Assembly.

A City Hall spokesman said: "Getting young Londoners engaged and involved in the running of their city is an important objective for the London Assembly and these young Londoners are enthusiastic about bringing issues that matter to them to the forefront of local politics."

Tony Arbour, chairman of the London Assembly, said Friday: "The London Assembly is proud to be working with London Youth Assembly on the issues that matter to the young people who are the future of our city."
