BERLIN, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- German media, the DW, reported on Saturday that Anis Amri, the perpetrator who fatally attacked a Berlin Christmas market in 2016, did not act alone and may have belonged to a terror group.

An investigation report by Italian police, which was released to Germany authorities ensuing the attack, has been accessed by various German media outlets lately, according to the DW.

According to the report, Amri was likely supported by a terror cell linked to Berlin's Fussilet mosque that has since been shut down. Previously, German authorities insisted that Amri was alone in carrying out the attack, the DW said.

In Dec. 2016, Amri drove a hijacked lorry into a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people, injuring others. He resurfaced in Italy shortly after that attack and was killed in a shootout with Italian police.

So far, nearly 4 million euros have been distributed to the families of victims and those injured in the terrorist attack as compensation, according to the DW. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollars)
