NEW DELHI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Dense fog with high air-pollution levels has delayed 41 flights from New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday since 6:00 a.m. local time.

Road traffic also was disrupted due to low visibility in New Delhi and adjacent areas.

Mild showers in New Delhi and surrounding areas on Sunday morning decreased air pollution levels, though the overall air quality was still described as "severe."

PM 2.5 levels in New Delhi's Anand Vihar got reduced to 285 as compared to 544 on Saturday morning. In Mundka area, PM 2.5 readings were recorded at 321 while the previous morning it was 509, said media reports.

Fog in the city made driving vehicles difficult as visibility was extremely low.

In Bengaluru, the capital city of southern state of Karnataka, 27 flights were delayed at the Kempegowda International Airport due to fog.

Air Quality Index (AQI) of three areas in Bengaluru reached unhealthy levels. In Silk Board area, PM 2.5 reading was 152, while in BTM area its reading touched 156 and in Jayanagar Fifth Block the reading was 151.
