TEHRAN, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran will not extend the 60-day deadline for the parties to the 2015 nuclear deal to take practical measures to save Iran's interests, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said Wednesday.

"Iran's two-month deadline for the remaining parties of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the nuclear deal) cannot be extended," Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman of AEOI, was quoted as saying by the state TV.

On May 8, Iran withdrew from part of the nuclear deal and threatened to take more actions in case Tehran's interests under the pact cannot be guaranteed.

Accordingly, Iran set a 60-day deadline for the signatories of the nuclear deal to address Iran's interests under the deal.

Iran has taken further steps to suspend some of its commitments under the deal, Kamalvandi said.

"We are taking measures in a consecutive and interconnected manner and there are no conditions to go backward," the spokesman added.

The move by Iran comes after U.S. President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the nuclear deal in May last year and resumed energy and financial sanctions on Iran.
