SANAA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said they launched bomb-laden drone attacks at King Khaled Air Base in Asir region in southwestern Saudi Arabia on Saturday, Houthi military spokesman said in a statement.

"The attacks targeted radar sites and other military facilities in the air base," Yahya Sarea said in the statement, adding the attacks came in retaliation against Saudi-led coalition's airstrikes.

There has been no Saudi confirmation about the attacks yet.

On Saturday morning, the coalition forces launched a series of airstrikes on the capital Sanaa, targeting rebel-held military camp and the adjoining information ministry's building, according to the Sanaa residents.

The coalition said its airstrikes on Sanaa hit air defenses and a depot of ballistic missiles, according to the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television.

Houthi rebels have recently stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, but most of the missiles and drones were intercepted by the kingdom's air forces.

Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition against the Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen for more than four years in support of the exiled internationally-recognized government of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
