ZHENGZHOU, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- On a bright morning in Zhengzhou, over 120 representatives from all walks of life enjoyed citizens' cheers between streets, handing on the torch before China's 11th Ethnic Games opens on Sunday.

Over 7,000 athletes from 34 delegations around China will attend the 11th Ethnic Games, which is the first nationwide games to be held in Henan Province, providing an opportunity to Zhengzhou, the well-known transportation hub with intensive railway lines in central China.

"Zhengzhou faces the transformation from high-speed boom to a more viable and quality development pattern," said the city's mayor Wang Xinwei, in whose eyes the Ethnic Games is a window of displaying new image of Zhengzhou.

The host city has called up more than 47,000 volunteers, hoping all efforts will bring better services in a bid to attract more tourists in future.

A series of multicultural exhibitions and performances will be held in the meantime, including a get-together carnival, while organizers will also use technological innovations to show full-on visual experience in the ceremonies.

"Different traditional cultures have mutually exchanged with and understood each others in every period of the Chinese history. We will show that in a modern way," Ding Wei, director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 11th Ethnic Games, said.

Meanwhile, the principle of running the games with diligence and frugality has reflect in how the events to be organized and operated.

"As a big agriculture province in the plain areas, Henan has no racecourse ever before, and we put all equestrian competitions to Huhhot to make best use of the advantages and bypass the disadvantages," Wu Cuiying, the general secretary of 11th Ethnic Games' Organizing Committee said.
