COPENHAGEN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen met with her visiting Irish counterpart Leo Varadkar here on Friday and discussed preparation for no-deal Brexit.

"What we discussed a lot was the Brexit deadline at the end of the month," said the Danish prime minister in a brief press conference after their discussions.

Frederiksen said that despite the British new proposals to withdraw from the EU with a deal, the European Union (EU) was preparing for a no-deal Brexit.

"The next couple of weeks are uncertain and of course we are all preparing for a no-deal. But I hope we will still be able to find a solution," said the Danish prime minister.

The Irish prime minister said that the British proposals revealed Britain still has "a long way to go" before a deal can be reached.

During the press conference, Frederiksen admitted that the repercussions of a British no-deal exit would be damaging for both countries.

"Of course primarily Ireland but also Denmark will be affected by Brexit," said Frederiksen, adding, "I think the rest of Europe should stand together with Ireland as we have done."
