Japan's Shinhama wins men's 500m at ISU Speed Skating World Cup

TOMASZOW MAZOWIECKI, Poland, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Shinhama Tatsuya won the men's 500m on the last day of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup here on Sunday.

Shinhama started in the ninth pair against the South Korean Kim Jun-ho and turned out to be faster from very beginning, finally winning the event in 34.732 seconds and beating his compatriot Murakami Yuma just by 0.002 seconds. Laurent Dubreuil of Canada picked the bronze medal in 34.975.

China's sole representative in the event, Gao Tingyu, finished 13th in a time of 35.297. He is fourth in the World Cup standings with 82 points, while Sunday's winner Shinhama and Kim Jun-ho sit joint top with 103 points.

Earlier on Sunday, Canadian Alex Boisvert-Lacroix won the men's 500m Division B ahead of the Pole Artur Nogal and Havard Homlefjord Lorentzen of Norway, stopping the clock at 35.207.

Five-time Olympic champion Ireen Wust of the Netherlands claimed back-to-back World Cup women's 1,500m titles in a track record-time of 1:56.627. Takagi Miho of Japan finished 0.54 seconds behind for second, while Evgeniia Lalenkova of Russia bagged third.

Karolina Bosiek of Poland crossed the line in 1:59.450 to take the event's Division B title, followed by Yuna Onadera of Japan and Chinese skater Yin Qi, who finished in 2:00.305.
